Police received a call for a report of a large fight involving a gun in the area of Wisner Ave just after midnight on Friday. Reports also said the armed man was heading toward Broadway.

As Sgt. Chris Lahar checked the area, two cars fled the scene heading in opposite directions on Wisner Ave, Newburgh Police said.

The vehicle that fled west finally stopped on Little Britain Road. The driver, Heather Aleman, 30, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

The vehicle that fled east came to a stop on Lake Drive. Lamont McDonald, 27, then tried to escape on foot. Lahar was able to track down the suspect and took him into custody, officials said.

McDonald was charged with several counts of possession of a controlled substance, assault of an officer who was injured and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

Both were held pending arraignment in City of Newburgh Court.
